Cognitive behavioral therapy
Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) products are designed to give people mobile access to psychological techniques to help cope with or modify symptoms. While these products are for use on computers or on mobile devices, they are often used in conjunction with therapy provided by psychologists or psychiatrists.
Cognitive remediation programs are designed to help recover cognitive abilities that have been reduced by particular conditions or diagnoses. Sometime cognitive training programs are recommended although they have not been specifically approved for certain diagnoses.
Cognitive training exercises are designed to help preserve and maximize cognitive capabilities regardless of diagnosis.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) was designed originally to treat Borderline Personality Disorder, but has since been extended to treat a wide variety of mood, anxiety, and substance use disorders. Formal DBT is usually provided by organized treatment teams, and consists of three components: individual counseling, group psychoeducation, and coaching calls. Maladaptive behavior patterns are identified and analyzed in individual counseling, coping skills are taught and practiced during the group psychoeducation meetings, and crises are managed by the brief coaching calls. Apps and other eMental Health programs are generally able to focus on the psychoeducation piece, as well as the Diary Card exercise that is part of the individual counseling component.
Mindfulness products are designed to help people focus on the present moment, in order to avoid reflexive responsiveness to or distraction by various symptoms.
Symptom trackers are designed to monitor one or more aspects such as symptom severity, emotional or environmental triggers, early signs of relapse, or adherence to medications.
