Meditation Experience

Meditation Experience is designed to give users access to community based meditation experiences, as well as offering individual meditation track downloads for purchase. Users create an account on Chopra.com prior to using the app. Once the user account is activated online, the home screen displays a list of available Free Experiences. Free, 21-day meditation experiences for all users/subscribers are offered periodically through the Chopra.com team. If there are no free experiences currently available, users can purchase meditation tracks or listen to 15-20 minute sample tracks. The app relies on users’ access to the web-browser to make purchases on Chopra.Com that can be accessed and downloaded on a mobile device. The meditations consist of instrumental tracks with narration, performed by television personality Oprah Winfrey, and physician/alternative medicine advocate Deepak Chopra, M.D

Research on the product

There is no direct research support for the Meditation Experience App, but the benefits of mindfulness and meditation on psychological health and well-being are well documented (for review, see Grossman et al, 2004). Meditation is one type mindfulness strategy that has demonstrated success in the management of mood and anxiety disorders (e.g. Kabat-Zinn et al, 1992), physical illness (e.g. Boyle et al, 2017) and overall stress (e.g Oman et al, 2008). In randomized control trials, mindfulness strategies (including mediation) have been shown to increase activity in areas of the brain associated with self-control, attention, and immune function (e.g. Davidson et al, 2003, Taren et al, 2017 )
