WhatsMyM3

WhatsMyM3 is a web-based mental health screening tool for doctors and clients concerned about their mental health. First-time users complete a brief checklist which helps to identify problems with mood, anxiety, and/or PTSD. The results of this screening are intended to allow clients and doctors to make better-informed decisions about whether treatment for mental health issues will be helpful. WhatsMyM3 also allows users to track changes in their symptoms over time, so that users and providers can pay attention to progress or obstacles in treatment. Additionally, WhatsMyM3 partners with the National Suicide Warmline to direct users to their service who report that they experience a significant level of suicidal ideation.
A version of WhatsMYM3 is also available for use by clinicians.

Research on the product

Gaynes, B. N., DeVeaugh-Geiss, J., Weir, S., Gu, H., MacPherson, C., Schulberg, H. C., & … Rubinow, D. R. (2010). Feasibility and diagnostic validity of the M-3 checklist: A brief, self-rated screen for depressive, bipolar, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorders in primary care. Annals of Family Medicine, 8(2), 160-169. doi:10.1370/afm.1092 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20212303/
“The M-3 demonstrates utility as a valid, efficient, and feasible tool for screening multiple common psychiatric illnesses, including bipolar disorder and PTSD, in primary care. Its diagnostic accuracy equals that of currently used single-disorder screens and has the additional benefit of being combined into a 1-page tool. The M-3 potentially can reduce missed psychiatric diagnoses and facilitate proper treatment of identified cases.”
